Oh, I needed this post as we are heading out in the canoes and kayaks with all our gear for three days. I wasn't really looking forward to it because it just sounds like a lot of work, and maybe I'll run out of chocolate with no convenience store for reloading my supply. But this post reminded me of how much I need the restorative peace of nature, and the closeness we all experience out on the river and in the woods together. Thanks!

okay Alis, so now you've got me shopping for a daypack, too. Because at what magical age does Beard indicate that a boy is old enough to carry his own water, grub and extra change of clothes!? I'm really ready for that level of independence to bud.

nice! beautiful place to camp out under the stars. we get opossum, fox, coyote, bear, mice & racoon around here. definitely would have to hang our food. sounds like you had smaller visitors though, so nothing too crazy! :)
