  Coaxing Cartography

  I’d been trying to coax Seth out to work on our map of the back yard for a few days.  Denise mentioned that when her children made a map of their neighborhood they drew pictures of their friend’s houses along the route.  This gave me the hook I needed, I mean really mom who wants a map of their back yard!  But a map of one’s imaginary back yard rail road – now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!   Urban Orienteering for Four Year Olds

  First things first you get yourself a good map! This is a map of our journey from Grandpa's house in Mountain View via Cal Train to Redwood Trading Post in Redwood City. Our map is hand drawn with some fantastical cartography and lots of emphasis on TRAIN stations and other TRAIN elements. This map was drawn purely for four year old orienteering "buy-in", and is definitely not to scale.
